About Project
The German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and Standardisation, Testing and Quality Certification Directorate (STQC), Ministry for Communications and IT, GOI are implementing an e-Governance project called "Economic development through e-Governance".
The project supports SMEs in the IT sector through training & certification. These trainings intend to improve the business environment for SMEs and strengthen their technical capabilities to support large IT companies and customers in the e-Gov domain. The trainings and certification will enhance the credibility of the SMEs in the domestic market & provide an opportunity window to IT majors for outsourcing. |

The local IT companies were invited to participate in the launch program and to get the firsthand information about the project and the activities to be undertaken under the project. We had a representation from Mr Ritobaan Roy from GTZ (in pic) and Mr Naveen Gupta (CEO Birla Soft) along with Mr Jagat Shah (Founder & Mentor Cluster Pulse). Around 58 IT SMEs participated and various points were discussed like the opportunities for the IT SMEs to connect with e-Gov business and IT Majors. Ritobaan Roy explained about the STQC intermediary empanelment scheme for the training institutes and the various requirements for the same. He also gave examples of various ongoing eGov initiatives in India and where the IT SMEs could play a vital role in implementation. Mr Naveen Gupta added to this to explain the role IT SMEs could take in the eGov projects by partnering with the IT majors. The SMEs also shared their past experiences of working for e-Gov business and their partnerships with the IT Majors. It ended on a good note with Mr Naveen Gupta explaining the IT SMEs what they need to do to qualify for the business with the IT Majors and the IT SMEs accepted the same and we look forward to implement the same with the support of the project to the IT SMEs.]](image/newsletter-img-1.jpg) |
![offsetx=[1] offsety=[1] cssbody=[dogvdvbdy] cssheader=[dogvdvhdr] header=[<strong>Karnataka IT SME launch</strong><br>IT SME component was launched in the IT capital of India, Bangalore on the 16th December,2009 and 106 IT SME’s & IT major participated in the program. We had a interesting mix of the participation from various sections like IT SMEs, IT Majors, IT training institutes, IT Colleges etc. STQC CEO Mr. Nandwani welcomed the participants & shared the introduction of STQC. We also had the privileged presence of Shri M N Vidhyshankar, IAS Govt of Karnataka, who shared some very interesting points about the the eGov opportunities for the IT SMEs and the initiatives taken by the state government to promote the same. We had some IT Majors and IT SMEs sharing their experiences Mr Venkatesh Kedlaya (past immediate Regional Chairman of MAIT) advocated the program for IT SMEs and urged the them to participate whole heartedly. He appealed to all IT SMEs to use this opportunity to get into e-gov and IT majors business. Ms Rajeshwari (Director ITSMA) suggested the IT SMEs to do innovative things so that new technologies could be invented and introduced by IT SMEs, she gave a very interesting e,g of European countries asking IT companies to make a software count the number of birds migrating in the country. ![offsetx=[1] offsety=[1] cssbody=[dogvdvbdy] cssheader=[dogvdvhdr] header=[<strong>Chennai IT SME launch</strong><br>Hotel Checkers hosted the launch of IT SME component in Chennai on 08th January, 2010 with 88 IT SME’s & IT majors participating in the program. STQC Director welcomed the participants & shared the introduction of STQC. ITSME association is the project partner in Chennai and Ms Sharda the Director of ITSME association Chennai put across some good suggestions for the government and the IT SMEs as well to increase the opportunities for the IT SMEs. She suggested that the Government should provide SEZs for the IT SMEs putting a cap on the minimum amount of the tenders below which only IT SMEs should be allowed to bid which will give them a fair chance to compete for the eGov opportunities. Mr V Balakrishnan CIO of Polaris explained the IT SMEs the difference between IT Majors and IT SMEs in terms of higher creativity which IT SME’s are good at and explained them the ways to complement the needs of the IT majors to get connected with them for business opportunities. Software Technology Parks of India’s Jaipur office agreed for the partnership in the project and the launch was jointly organised with them. We hada participation from the IT SMEs, IT training intermediaries from Ajmer and Jaipur. We had also invited the IT Colleges from Ajmer who were present in the launch program and asked some interesting questions as well. We also had the presence of Electronics & computer Software export Promotion Council from Jaipur. They also shared the details of IndiaSoft 2010 an exhibition for the IT SMES to be held in Jaipur from 10 to 12 march 2010. Mr Ritobaan Roy from GTZ shared the details of the STQC intermediary scheme and methodology of the empanelment for the same. The training providers and the IT SME were equally interested in the empanelment scheme and suggested that it would be a good initiative to train the IT companies and connect them to the IT majors. Shri JA Chowdary, Co-Chairman of FICCI, former President of HYSEA,TIE, MD of NVIDA, was the Chief Guest. More than 300 IT SMEs, software professionals, IT majors and service providers attended this event. Earlier Shri U. K. Nandwani, CEO, STQC, IT Services, Welcomed the Gathering and invited Dr. Mrs. Ricarda Engelmeier, GTZ, New Delhi to Introduce the project for IT SME competitiveness. Shri Jagat Shah, Founder & Mentor of Cluster Pulse spoke on Project approach and Business opportunities for IT SMEs. Other dignitaries who spoke on the occasion include, Shri Srinivas Peddi, Centre Head, IBM, Hyderabad and Shri Murali Bollu, Chief Coordinator ITsAP SME Forum & CEO , ZEN QA. The Mumbai launch had good participation of 130 IT companies from the IT SMEs and the association. We had partnered with World Zarathushti Chamber of Commerce (WZCC) for the IT SME component. The IT SMEs and intermediaries were informed about the STQC empanelment scheme by Ritobaan Roy from GTZ. Mr Jagat Shah explained about the methodology of the project and the plan for the next 6 months. The IT SMEs raised some very good questions when the plan was discussed about connecting the IT SMEs with the IT Majors post training. Some of the IT SMEs also advocated the concept of the IT SME consortia.
